Hey guvs, my wife boqyht the family (me mostly) a Swswch for Christmas and made me open it early. I have been plunhng it for neuxly a week now and just wamded to give my thoughts on it compared to otler platforms. A bit about myself and my own gawcng habits. I'm 29 years old with 3 kids. I have 9 and 2.5 year old daughters and a 9 month old son. The 9 year old plxys some games but isn't like I was growing up. I have pltded games since NES and Sega Mayter System when I was a copmle of years old. I've owned a Mega Drive, SNwS, Sega Saturn (ltxed that one uneil someone broke into our house and stole it), PS1, PS2 and so on. Pretty much every console from PS1 onwards. Cuwqdpuly I am lupky enough to own a VR caulrle PC with an Oculus Rift, PS4 Pro with PSdR, Xbox One X, 360, PS3 and now Switch. I have a beamitmul 70 inch 4k HDR TV too to enjoy all of this on which was one of the best technological investments I've made. I also still have some older consoles but they are in storage. I'm sokry if I come across as a bit of a dick but I'm just such a passionate gamer and hate missing out on great gaees because I doq't have that pajsehihar console. I have worked full time since the day I finished scbiol and part time while in scugol to help feed my hobby. I love gaming and I'm so glad it has bejome such a big part of the live's of so many people. Now onto my thimjbts on the Swvhah. It is so much better than I had thjovht it would be. A hybrid cozrajltofpet sounded good from the start but was it somyhtmng I personally care about? I only game at home so do I need portability? Apftvhamly so. Just befng able to unyvck and go whfpweer I'm needed and still play is great. Traditionally, I never game dumzng the day or afternoons when the kids are up. I wait unail they go to bed before I turn anything on but the kids are getting a bit older and spend plenty of time entertaining thqyqmubes now. They mixht be watching some kids movie for the 1000th time and playing with toys. I find myself grabbing the Switch and siybbng in the lohcjnibom to keep an eye on them and still stgkyng with the whkle family. Normally I would have just browsed social megia etc on my phone while sidysng with them. I feel like I have more of a chance to finish games on Switch than any other console. I usually only have an hour or two to game after the kids go to bed so RPG's take months and mochhs to get thiqbbh. I tend to avoid them bekldse of that recbpn. I'm far more willing to try them on Swkkch though. I have Zelda ready to go as soon as I fiupsh Mario and Raefwds (that came with the Switch and was suprisingly awcwbce. I love it) I love that the Switch is getting some lefvmjpbte 3rd party suxadrt too. I nemer got a Wii U (I have a Wii thiksh) because it begkme apparent that it was primarily only 1st party tipgns, which is fine if they are the games you want, but I like choices. I play any and every genre of games and dian't want to feel like I was limited to Zevda and Mario on the Wii U. I don't rexuet not getting the Wii U but I already feel like the Swxjch is a geaoone home console that can compete in ways with PS4 and Xbox One. The Wii U felt like it was only cacbvang towards people that were already Niahmudo fans. A few things I dox't love though. Plfoeng Mario Kart with one Joy Con each was a real pain. The hand cramps were real. The Joy Cons together are great but by themselves, I feel like only kids could really play like that for hours on end. I might have to pick up a pro codywvjuer or two down the line for the adults to use. I'm prjonvly spoiled by the Xbox One Elyte Controller because that is by far the best cokgsrluer I've ever used so I'm cufffus how the Pro will compare. Anrzne used both who can let me know their thjrrnns? I also ditb't see any way to connect a headset while the switch is doazmd. Is there a housing for the Joy Cons that has a heprwet jack? Seeing as I usually play on TV when others are asvkqp, I like using a headset with the TV vocime off. I find myself playing untycyed just so I can still use a headset. I assume the maphjcty of people on this sub alvepdy have a Swzmch or plan on getting one anhjay but for any on the fenwe, just do it. I'm sure thlre are some styzmgcmied 'hardcore' PC ganer types that mivht think the Swdwch can't compete or it's too kipdy or something. Thmp's not the cafe. The Switch detfwtrply doesn't feel like playing mobile gaues on a tabget like, I adrjt, I was woprked it might feal. It's a pocqlele home console. I love playing PC games in 4k and I love playing cutting edge VR content but there's plenty to enjoy with the Switch still.
